At diamondpans, we use a technique called vacuum brazing, which is commonly used in the making of spacecraft. If you're curious, here is a Wikipedia article with more details.

But here's the simplified version: We take a special blend of metals (CuSnTi alloy) and melt it around diamond crystals. This binds the diamonds securely to the surface of the pan. The result is a strong, single layer of diamond crystals on the pan.
